thingstry Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 28, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how thingstry ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the thingstry app, website, APIs, and related services (the "Service").
1. Information we collect
We collect information when you use the Service:
A. Account and profile information
- Email address and account credentials.
- Username, profile name, bio, avatar, and preferences.
- Date of birth for age verification.
- Optional push and notification preferences.
B. Content and profile details you provide
- Photos and videos you upload.
- Captions, hashtags, mentions, comments, repost text, and report submissions.
- Location-related input you provide (for example, place names, place IDs, and profile or post location settings).
- User-generated text and social interactions.
C. Location data
- Device location if you enable location features.
- Optional place/location information you manually enter when searching or tagging location.
- Publicly visible location context tied to content where applicable.
D. Messaging and communication
- Messaging delivery and thread metadata.
- Message delivery status (for example, thread activity and recipient-device message state).
- Notification events and messaging activity for features you enable.
- Direct messages sent after both people are in an accepted conversation are stored as encrypted message content plus the metadata needed to route and deliver them. Messages sent before a recipient accepts a conversation may be readable by the platform for safety, moderation, abuse prevention, and delivery purposes. We also store metadata needed to operate messaging, such as thread, sender/recipient, and device information.
E. Device and service usage data
- Device identifiers, app version, operating system version, locale, country, and IP address.
- Session and security logs, error/audit events, and analytics used for service reliability.
2. What we create from your uploads
When you upload photos or videos, we process that content so the Service can work.
We may create derived data from uploads, such as:
- captions,
- tags/labels,
- safety signals,
- search or recommendation signals,
- and other metadata needed to moderate, index, and deliver results.
We do this to support:
- search and discovery,
- feed ranking and recommendations,
- automated safety checks,
- moderation workflows.
3. How we use your information
- create and manage accounts and sessions,
- host and deliver uploads, feeds, search, messaging, sharing, and notifications,
- run moderation and abuse prevention,
- personalize and improve discovery and search quality,
- process waitlist and invite flows,
- send operational and account-related communications,
- measure performance and improve reliability,
- comply with legal, safety, and regulatory obligations.
4. When location is used
- with device location permissions enabled; you can disable location permissions in device settings at any time.
- or with manual location input/selection without location permissions.
5. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Our service uses AI for specific product functions, and we keep this use narrow:
We may use AI to provide and improve services
- We use AI to understand your uploads so we can provide context-based searches and recommendations.
- We may use AI to help run moderation and enforce our policies.
We do not provide your data to third-party AI models for training
- We do not use your uploaded data to train third-party AI models. OpenAI is used for inference-only processing under the OpenAI API service agreement currently in effect.
- We publish marker files and headers (`/robots.txt`, `/llms.txt`, `X-Robots-Tag`) to mark service content as not open for AI training, scraping, or indexing.
We do not use personally identifying information with AI
- We do not include direct profile identifiers (for example, email, username, tokens, or contact fields) as inputs to AI model calls.
- We only use the minimum upload content and derived metadata needed for the feature requested.
AI-generated asset policy
- We do not permit knowingly AI-generated media uploads. This includes uploads that are generated by AI systems and then posted as original user content.
- If content is reported as AI-generated, our moderation process may add a safety signal to the content and can result in additional review actions, including visibility limits, labeling, or removal under our moderation workflow.
- For safety and appeals review, we may retain relevant upload metadata and moderation records associated with those reports.

- Notification and email providers.
- Mapping and place services.

- app and device context,
- account/session associations as required,
- ad interaction events (impressions, clicks, failures).
You can review or change ad-related settings where available in-app or per device options.
8. Data retention
